i was randomly sifting through, and i saw your user name, which happens to be a type of whiskey, so i was intrigued!! read your user info, read your journal, saw boris, fell in love and added you. so it's all boris' fault! i'm a sucker for animals! its nice to meet you to :)! and maybe i can be your first british person :) hope to talk more soon
fair enought :) And yes, talisker is a brand of scotch I enjoy and it's a fun word to say to boot :P
Boris says hello :) He's chasing my belt right now. Added you back, welcome aboard. Just so you know, my friends and I are insane – fair warning about the comments sections of some of our posts :P
macro-invertebrate diversity in ponds for my MSc. poosibly looking at how size affects rates of succession. i'm just trying to be clever, and its not going too well at the momnet, mainly due to sheer volume and lack of time! scotland is pretty. i went to Isle of Skye for a month to study harbour seals which was cool!
Skye is gorgeous!! i'm actually an ethologist so not quite a biologist, but theres a huge overlap, and i'm looking forward to getting back in to animal behaviour after my MSc :) i find chemisty too complicated, but i liked inorganic – lots of pretty clours ;)
I'm at my happiest trying to see what protein does what with what other protein :) Still, it's been a long time since I've done actual bench work. I'm more into the computer science aspect of things these days.
at the end of the day, its doing what you enjoy. i'm interested in my work, but i don't enjoy it – which is probably why i don't do as well as i should – mainly cuz i know i don't have the time to do what i want to do with it, and the time is such a limiting factor, which is frustrating. but i'm hoping that once i start writing things will pick up. it helps tha i'm no longer having a dispute with my supervisor, and that hes finally taking an interest in what i want to do with my data, rather than what he needs to get out of it, especially now i've manged to combine the two. oo too much text (i'm a compulsive commenter, have you noticed ;))
1. I'm kinda-sorta looking for a new job. long story. so yes, I understand what you mean.
2. supervisors can be like that. I was lucky that I had a great one.
3. did I mention that I once went a few weeks and 500-odd comments on a single post with a friend to see who was the most pig-headed and would have the last word?
oh, can we do that?? can we? can we? can we?? i'm having short breaks between journal articles to write these. i bet i the most pig headed, i don't see it as a bad thing neccessarily, tho it does cost me vast amounts of money in sms and has on occassion resulted in my phone being confiscated. which was amusing for everyone, except me….
job hunting is a pain, i know as many of my friends are doing it, and i shall be shortly joining them. tho i am contemplating emmigrating in order to get rid of my student debt. if that doesn't work, i'm just gonna have to change my identity, which could be fun! if you could become anyone, who would it be?
*groan*, not another one… damn. I'm still getting over the first one :P
Where are you thinking of emigrating to? As for your question… I'm mostly happy with who I am, so I wouldn't really change anytning – except to give me more $$$ for short term amusement and some long-term projects :D
i'm actually thinking of emigrating to canada actually (be warned!), preferably to calgary as i have a friend there whos sofa i can steal, and bully him in to letting be work for him :D
as for the continuing conversation, i fear you may win. my brain is slowly melting fromn reading about pond permanence, which wouldn't be so bad if that was what my project was actually about!!more island biogeography theory is what i need… honest it is!
that is good advice to any cat owner, and is usually learned very early on during ownership :) boris is insanely cute btw. my cat send her regards ;)

cool! i've been to their whisky distillery. i like a bit of insanity, it'll make a nice change fromn the tedium of research projects :)
never been to Scotland, though it's on my list of places to see. What are you doing, research-wise?

interesting. biology was never my thing, mostly because of the fieldwork. I was more into biochemistry. That's what my master's degree is in.
Skye must have been lovely.
