News from McGill
Hi Richard
There are some developments but I am busy this week
But perhaps we could talk next week?
Best regards
David
Short and sweet, but promising none the less. Developments are good, and the absence of any text of the “the position has already been filled” sort is also good.
Wish me luck :D
Reach out and touch someone
Spent a few hours on the phone with Katy tonight, talking about everything and nothing. It was really fun. It's been a long time since I've spent that long on the phone. We were both falling asleep at the end; she because it was 2am local, and I because I got something like 10 hours of sleep in the last 2 days.
She's going to disagree with me, but she has a nice phone voice (and a cute accent) and I can't wait to meet her in person.
just cause she asked nicely :)
HUZZAH!!!! HUZZAH!!!! HUZZAH!!!!
RUSH!
Saw Rush tonight at the Bell center and it KICKED ASS!
A three-and-a-half hour concert!!!! 31 songs!
You have to give it to Rush. They're the granddaddy of the show band. Pyrotechnics, light shows, AV to the max. It was EXCELLENT!
They played all the oldies and goodies, with tons of stuff I'd never heard before. They started with the electrifying riffs of Spirit of the Radio, and it didn't let up for an hour and a half. After a few songs, Geddy Lee introduced the band and said “all of you are responsible for us being on our 30th anniversary tour. We need to punish you by playing way too much music”. Subdivisions and Roll the bones had the whole Bell Center dancing in their seats. YYZ's solos were… spectacular. Neal Pearth is a drumming legend. He's poetry in motion to watch. Seeing Lee sing, play bass and play keyboard AT THE SAME TIME is something to behold.
The second set of the show had more new material, but they still had oldies like Tom Sawyer, 2112 (complete!), working man and La Villa Strangiato – with a really fucked up guitar solo by Alex Lifeson, where he was grunting and screaming about his poolboy. It was completely outlandish. Geddy Lee was laughing his ass off. Another hour-and-a-half set and then the first ovation. They played for another 30 minutes, including limelight and Crossroads :D They played a few covers, like Summertime Blues and The Who's Seeker.
All in all, well worth the price of admission :D
I'm all hyper now :D
YAY!
Spare change to kill politicians?
You have to love the panhandlers downtown. It seems that everyone has a unique hook to try and tease some money from the smileless mobs. My philosophy is that if they can make me laugh, or catch me off guard with something unusual, I'll usually dig into my pockets to see if I have some change. (Some of them have gotten to be permanent fixtures of the downtown scene, like Brian-for-food-not-alcohol and Louise-and-the-overweight-guide-dog.)
Gaah!
There's this huge flying thing in my room and I'm not a happy camper right now.
Edit: 12 hours later. I'm still not a happy camper. I didn't want to deal with buzzy insect-thing last night, so I slept on the couch. Of course, cat had a wonderful time last night keeping me awake *grumbles*.
Not the most fun way to spend a friday night
Went to help Michel move stuf from his gf's old apartment to his condo. What was supposed to be a 3 hour move, with only a few pieces of furniture and some boxes, morphed into a 7h move that filled most of a U-Haul cube van. Still, I don't mind giving them a hand. I know they'd to the same for me. Still, I'm going to feel this one tomorrow… The low note of the night was when I realized that Isa had a non-allergy-friendly cat in her apartment and all her sofas were covered in cat hair… I'd kinda forgotten that I was allergic. I remembered the hard way. I'd forgotten how annoying it is to sneeze 10 times in a row.
quote of the day
I'm attracted to you to a point where it scares me, yet I want more.
What's been happening in the last 24 hours
Went to Hurleys for drinks with eniran last night, which hit the spot for both of us, as we both needed to talk. Lots of stuff happening these days, some good, some less. She looked over the gift I'm sending petkatyyazzick and pronounced it good. She also looked over the barwench and pronounced her good (rowr!) Got home, ate pasta goodness and mainly putzed around the apartment and played with the cat.
Got into the office at a decent time – I've actually been really good about coming into the office on time for the last month or so – and got some work done. Went walking with emjayne today, which is always a source of enjoyment. Went shopping for undies, which is the second time in two days I've been in a lingerie store. I think I'm developing a fetish :D
Went to McGill to see a client, which went ok, and then to the McIntyre to see the dean. He wasn't there again today, damnit. That's twice this week I've tried to get in touch with him *pout*. Meh, it's been a good day overall.
I've been in a very good mood recently, as a few of you know. I blame Katy for that :P It's all her fault. She makes me feel good. To exacerbate the situation, she just told me that she's going to confirm her tickets to come over here in October some time next week. I mean, how can I guy maintain a sour disposition when people around him keep giving him reasons to do a happy dance in the office and scare his coworkers silly?
