I've been trying to get information about Katy's insurance claim for the past 3 days now. I am seriously beginning to lose my cool. If I can't get a flesh and blood person (who's not the operator) by the end of the day, I'm going to go ballistic.
Month: February 2005
I kick ass when I want to
Man, that feels good.
I wrote some honest-to-goodness code today :D
Of course, it's not work-related, cause these days I'm spending most of my time on the phone/email trying to get IBM to get a move on. However, today, the occasion presented itself to get break out the mAd c0d1nG sKiLlZ, yo. In two hours, I whipped up a little script for Katy that would go through a list of contacts at McGill, customize an email message, attach the appropriate version of her CV and email the whole shebang off to them, while BCCing her.
It felt good to be using my brain again, plus I impressed my girl. Score! :)
The more things change, the more they stay the same…
LOS ANGELES, California (Reuters) — “Deep Throat,” the infamous 1972 adult film that led to a government crackdown on pornography, is being re-released in theaters as a new generation of lawmakers wages a renewed assault on smut, trade paper Daily Variety reported in its Tuesday edition.
The release of the Linda Lovelace opus, which was banned at the time in 23 states, coincides with the premiere of the documentary “Inside Deep Throat,” which hits theaters in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Boston on Friday.
The original film, which was made in six days for $25,000 and has allegedly grossed more than $600 million, will not be ready until at least February 18, the paper said. Las Vegas-based Arrow Prods., which owns the rights to the mob-funded “Deep Throat,” started striking 10 prints on Monday, it added.
Five of the prints will be edited to garner an “R” rating, which allows admission to children aged under 17 if accompanied by an adult. The documentary, co-produced by Brian Grazer, the Oscar-winning filmmaker of “A Beautiful Mind,” is rated NC-17, which denies admission to anyone aged 17 and under.
It shows how “Deep Throat” popularized a form of sexual pleasure previously considered taboo. But the Nixon administration was not amused, sending in the FBI to close down screenings, and taking legal action against the film's director, Jerry Damiano, and stars.
Meanwhile, a bill that would increase fines for smutty broadcasts to $500,000 per incident from $32,500 is wending its way through Congress with bipartisan support, inspired in part by Janet Jackson's “wardrobe malfunction” at the Super Bowl last year.
Hee hee hee
Boring entry
Last night was crepe night at sbourge's. Yummy food, too much sugar :) Watched Edward Scissorhands after dinner. It was.. meh. There's something about Tim Burton movies I just can't stomach. I can't put my finger on it. The movie is ok, but there's just something that makes my teeth grate. I liked Beetlejuice, and Nightmare before xmas is interesting, but for the rest… I have trouble.
I met with my financial whiz last night. BTW, if anybody out there in LJland needs a good financial planner, let me know. I have no qualms recommending Bernard. In the span of 2 years, he completely overhauled my financial profile from mmmokay to getting my money working for me and sanitizing my finances. He's also a genuinely nice guy.
Plans for the week now include seeing Ocean's Twelve tonight, going to the Musee des Beaux Arts tomorrow and the Planetarium on thursday. If anybody's interested to tag along, lemme know.
Another day, another 0.64$ after tax.
*yawn*
Slow day yesterday, as predicted. We didn't make the curries, cause Katy can't really eat spicy food these days because of her antibiotic-upset stomach. We'll have them later this week. On the other hand, I made yummy pizzas and bacon rolls and lemon cake, so that went according to plan. The bread was easier to make this time, cause I knew what to expect. Still as tasty though :)
We watched the superbowl with Sara. It was entertaining to watch Katy kibbitz and heckle the players for 2 hours (“that's the gayest display of testosterone I've ever seen!”).
This week should be fairly sedate. Going for crepes at casa Stephane, going to try a movie night on tuesday, museum night on wednesday, and that's all we have so far. I need to call the vet to see what I can do about Stinky (a.k.a Boris) cause he's not keeping himself as clean as a pussycat should and he STINKS! I think he's just still tender from his recent snipping, but still. I also need to go see my financial advisor to setup some RRSP loans and other financial details. I feel old when I talk about my RRSPs… weird.
Heyho, heyho, it's off to work I go.
Ho Hum…
Today will be a domestic day. Chores beckon. I've already done a few loads of laundry, with more do to. Later on, we're going to start cooking. On the menu: Laty's mom's curries, savoury pastries (again) and citrus bundt cake(again). I don't plan on going outside much today. Katy's still feeling less than stellar because of the antibiotics she's taking.
We went out yesterday to go to the “Salon de l'amour et de la seduction” being held at the Olympic stadium. What the frigging ads didn't mention is that there is a 12$ entry fee to get in. I was pissed off! I am not spending 25$ to go see stuff I could see free in a couple of stores around town. I was in the mood to go have a walk at the botanical gardens, but we decided to go have a walk around Atwater market. It smells *really* nice in there, and I found a butcher shop that sells tripe sausage casing, yay!
Did I mention pancakes?
Memage while pancaking
