Did you know that the Queen owns them (swans, I mean)? And you can't eat them, except if you're a member of certain cambridge colleges on certain days? Or so the brits tell me.
Some years ago, an immigrant from Asia saw those swans on the
Rideau canal (Ottawa)and without knowing the privilege status
of these birds, deceide to have a potluck stew.
He was arrested hunting the birds, then release as he thought they
were fair game
So, a royal gift could be a poor man's food.
Bye, RLC
The Queen doesn't own all of them. Some are owned by various (Cambridge) colleges and some of the guilds. They're marked (or certainly used to be) by notches carved into the beaks of the swans. Swan-upping is an annual thing where you mark your swans' cygnets.
Aww!

Hope you're adjusting well!

I've never seen a swan as roadkill.

I read something about that, about a guy being in trouble for having made swan terrine… weirdos, all of them.
as for adjusting, I'm at Katy's right now, so things are good.

You're partially right.

just because it's tradition doesn't mean it's any less insane :)

Just because it's insane doesn't mean there's anything wrong with it.
