I got email from my supervisor this morning saying that the sequence database group, for which I will be working, has an annual retreat and I will be able to attend. This year, it takes place in Italy between 15th September and 18th September. We will be staying at Il Ciocco/Castelvecchio Pascoli, situated in Garfagnana, the northern part of Tuscany approximately 40 km from Lucca.
From the website: Il Ciocco’s idyllic location remains within easy travelling distance for pursuing the delights of Lucca, Pisa and Florence, all accessible for day trips. The sandy beaches of the Tirrenian Sea can be reached in less than an hours drive and Barga, with its 12th century Duomo and summer music festival, is just 5 km’s away.
Oh, and did I mention that it's FREE?!?
In a word, WOOT!
ooooooh… Tuscany is oooh so nice. I'll be going to Italy myself in July (The nicest thing about living in a small country like Austria is that it doesn't take too long to get to lots of other countries… ;-)).
I've never been to Lucca, Pisa and Florence – but Florence is said to be very beautiful – whereas a friend of mine who is in Pisa for a semester told me that it was overrated (there's the Leaning Tower, and not much else).
Definitely something to look forward to, that trip!

her mental home wasn't very large, but it was hers. she enjoyed opening the door after a long day of mental work and knowing that she would be able to cast off all her mental fatigue.
She mentally prostrated herself on the couch to watch tv, but they were still analysing the results of the last mental state elections, and she had had enough of that. So she got up again and, after having a look around, decided to tidy up the mental disorder in her apartment.
argh. i've been like this all day.
