I've just spent the last 2 hours defrosting my fridge. There's water everywhere in the kitchen and I'm aggravated. Today hasn't been the best of days.

Don't complain… you should see mine. And the manager is supposed to be finding me another one… but they're on vacation. *grumbles*

Use a heat gun, ie a super powered hair dryer, and a chisel. I can defrost the lab freezers in no time with that.

the object of the exercise is not to melt the damn fridge :P

I miss my appliances :(

…a hairdrier helps a lot, though…

a hairdryer, yes. A paint stripper? no. Besides, heat's not an issue – it's the flood of water all over the floor that's annoying. I put towels down but they just soaked through.

if i had a chisel, i'd use it.
this way i always have to use my cheap ikea knives – and they always get bent.
really speeds up the defrosting, though, hence less water on the floor.

Isn't there supposed to be a tray that catches the water?

Just one advice, never use a knife or a chisel (or anything pointy), I remember our old fridge one time we wanted to defrost the damn thing and we used some knife and we kinda perforated the cooling line… There were cooling fluid all over the kitchen floor (the old kind, the one that gives you cancer).

Well that just won't do!
