People are aghast that we are beginning, in April, to plan our wedding for October. To this, I saw pshaw. We have listed all the details we need to arrange, and they all fit, scribbled on the back of a BP petrol receipt.
Our budget is as follows:
-£200 for tux rental/shirt/shoes/haircut for me
-£200 for bridesmaid dress/hair/makeup for Rita
-£600 for wedding dress/hair/makeup for Katy
-£1500 for hall rental & buffet (location probably being Chilford Hall, in Cambs)
-£300 for wine/booze
-£200 for wedding cake
-£900 for wedding rings
-£100 for disposable cameras for guests
And we still need to figure in the costs for:
– invitations
– car service
– bouquet and flowers
As well as:
– making mixed CDs for background music
– selecting a gift registry
– figuring out what paperwork is involved
– getting the license from the registry office
– planning the buffet menu
Boy are you going to be in shock when the final bill comes in…i think you are underestimating the cost of a wedding…bigtime
ps – when all is said and done, the thing that you will most likely look back on are the photos, so if you are going to pay big bucks for anything, pay the big bucks to get a good photographer.

Pshaw, indeed! My man and I pulled together our wedding in 6 weeks. You've set yourselves a leisurely pace with 6 months.

Not really, no. Yes, the cost of the average wedding in the UK is £11,000. We're not going to spend that. Katy's requirements are quite simple: a nice dress and a nice cake. Mine are even simpler than hers, to make her happy.
I hate flowers so I couldn't care less about elaborate floral arrangements. We're not giving cutesy memorial gifts to the people that come. We're not paying an assload of money for a pro photographer when we have friends who are enthusiastic amateurs and with two dozen point-and-shoot cameras, we should be able to get some nice pictures.
We're not planning an elaborate sit-down meal for the reception because there are too many dietary restrictions and finicky eaters. We're not hiring a disco because we're not planning to dance. We just want a nice meal with close family and friends.
As such, I think that the costs we've outlined are quite reasonable (and BTW, the highest cost as shown, the catering, comes directly from the reception hall itself so that's not really an estimate but a real figure).

Is that you Joe?

hopefully the details will be sorted out way before then. we've just not had time to focus on them in the last little while.

Why should you have to wait so long.
My best friend got engaged in December and the wedding will be August. And everyone keeps hassling her with 'why the hurry?'. I think once you decide to do it, why wait.

it's a special date, you see. Our anniversary is Oct 1st.

That makes even more sense.

(I was agreeing with you but just realised it might look like I was saying you should do it sooner!)
