Leonard Nimoy, the iconic and beloved actor who gained a worldwide following for his portrayal of the ever-logical and resolute Mr. Spock on Star Trek, passed away today in his home in Los Angeles. Nimoy was 83. He is survived by his wife, Susan Bay Nimoy, who confirmed his death was caused by end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Nimoy had been fighting this disease after years of smoking, despite having given up the habit three decades ago.
