Keeping this here for later use, looking at phone specs in case my current phone starts misbehaving more than it currently does

Must be my accent
Every time – every single time – that I spell my email to someone over the phone in french, they add an ‘A’ at the start of it. Conversation invariably goes like this:
me: mon addresse email est R-G-L-C….
other person: ok, A-R-G-L-C….
me: non, non, il n’y a pas de A
So I got fed up and registered the email address with the typo in it, and now it will automatically forward the wrong email to my correct one, and send an auto-response message:
Brushing off the old coding skills
I’ve been getting warning messages in wordpress for the last couple of weeks about the fact that my hosting account was running an old (!) version of PHP. However, while the upgrade process would be as easy as piss with BlueHost, I needed to make sure that nothing would break in wordpress after the upgrade. Turns out, my blog theme and one plugin would bork after an upgrade – and both are orphaned code projects. It was fairly simple to change the deprecated function calls that would have broken, but it was a fun little exercise and now all is good with the blogosphere.
Well color me impressed
The camera on my phone broke. The autofocus wouldn’t engage – it’s a known issue. I bought a repair kit from AliExpress for 15chf. The phone is out of warranty, so I figured I could take a punt at self-repair and if all else failed, I’d buy a new phone. Otherwise, I could do a factory reset, ship the phone to the UK, pay parts and labour, and wait for god knows how long before I’d get it back.
There are plenty of tutorials on YouTube that make the process look oh-so-simple. They lie. It took 25 minutes just to remove the two €¥©§#¡!!? torx screws that close the case. From there it didn’t get better. Cracking the case open went OK until I forgot to take the SIM card holder out and bent it. Then trying to get the motherboard off was a right mess. Bits actually went sproing! and I bent the motherboard when I didn’t remove a screw not mentioned in the video. I bent the motherboard. At this point, I figured my phone was well and truly borked but I reassembled it (and straightened it) as best I could. I didn’t expect it to boot. It did. WiFi, antenna, BT, all work (so far). Camera works. I… am kinda in shock actually. I just keep thinking the thing’ll HCF at some point, but for now, kudos to Oneplus.
Apparently, it’s Christmas tomorrow
Scrum redux
Scrum: way of working to maximize value
Scrum Master: maximize efficiency – remove impediments (manage & delegate)
Product Owner: maximize effectiveness – customer value (stakeholder relations)
Story points: time estimate x impediments –> these don’t show up if only measuring time
Vertical slice: always define the stories with the user in mind. Will the PBI be demoable?
Always work according to priority –> not, “does everyone have something do to?”
You can have it good, fast & cheap if you change what IT is. There are 4 variables in that sentence, not 3.
Project brief: identify value, don’t define “it”. Describe scope in terms of how to give value, but not exactly on how you plan to do it.
Organisation, we haz it.
When you’re asked to make a 30s video describing what you do
35 people have been tasked to make a 30s video explaining what they do. I get to edit the whole thing. What can go wrong…
