Bean just ran his first 2.5k race! He’s now celebrating with a raclette and a cup of tea.
Jennifer, Katy and Nana, finishing their 5k run with Bean cheering on.
The beaver is a proud and noble animal
Notes from a bemused canuck
Cheese, dried meats, grilled chicken, grilled courgette, boiled potatoes, pickled vegetables and laughter. Good meal!
Even the Ikea stores serve chasse on the lunch this time of year.
So the kiddies in our building went around the flats tonight. If you consider that the building has 3 sections of 5 floors, with roughly 4 flats per floor, that’s a fairly dense hunting ground for sweeties.
The Swiss, bless their little cotton socks, are only really starting to get into the spirit of Halloween. Must be the influence of all the bloody foreigners :) They see nothing wrong with giving out loose sweets from a big bag, an open packet of tic-tacs or a box of ricola cough lozenges. It’s the thought that counts, but it makes my inner north-american cringe.
Bean wanted a pumpkin carved into a cat. We got a picture off the internet that Katy freehanded. It got a lot of love from the crowd.
Katy ran her second official 10K run this weekend, the Lausanne marathon:
She did her personal best, improving on her London time. Yaaaaay!
After that, we all went to the Olympic museum. We’d tried to go on Friday, but the timing didn’t work out so we managed to get it done today.
We finished the day by having a celebratory Keriche and burger at the Brasseurs.
Good meal. Tired now :)

The family and the oldies went to visit the Chateau d’Aigle and the wine and label museum. It was a gorgeous day.
The castle was being decked out for a Halloween evening. Ben would have loved to stay for it but the timing didn’t work. We went to eat at a local pub, the Caveau de Cloitre. BRILLIANT!!! Rave! Rave! Best part? Homemade Breton apple cake with salted caramel sauce. We actually bought a whole cake to bring back home for pudding tonight :)

This weekend was a busy one. We started out on Friday with a drive up to Le Locle and La-Chaux-De-Fonds, to visit the MusĆ©e international d’horlogerie and the underground mills of le Col des Roches. On the way back, we drove through the Col du Marchairuz, in the Jura park.
On Saturday, we drove up to Fribourg. We saw the marionette museum, the Pont de Berne (built 1653) and the Pont de la Poya (built 2014). Ben had a blast pushing the buttons in the Tinguely museum. I discovered that my wife and my in-laws don’t know who Johannes Gutenberg is (but they do know Steve Gutenberg, from Police Academy). The menfolk climbed up 365 (!) steps up to the top of Cathedrale St-Nicholas. We didn’t die.
On Sunday, we went to visit a WWII fort build on the French-Swiss border. This was the smallest goat path that the satnav had managed to send us down so far. Also, more steps!
